Volunteer Training Day 3

March 14, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm PDT

Free

Make a difference by becoming a Mt. Hood Hospice volunteer.

Join us for this free, no obligation volunteer training to see if volunteering for hospice is a good fit for you. The session will take place over 5 days, for 4-hours each on March 8, 10, 14, 16 and 17, 2022.

What is needed to be a Mt. Hood Hospice Volunteer?

Are you empathetic, compassionate and a good listener? Those 18 years or older are encouraged to apply and must complete an application, 3 references, pass a background check and drug test. Vaccinations are required but you may apply for a religious or medical exception.

What does a Mt. Hood Hospice Volunteer do for patients?

Hospice volunteers help by offering friendly visits to patients, reading aloud, playing cards/games, listening, sitting with a sleeping patient. You may also take the patient to appointments or out shopping if they are able to ambulate. Respite may be required for the caregiver to run errands. Do you have a special talent like playing an instrument, singing, have a certified pet therapy dog, maybe a craft? Our patients could benefit from your gifts. Veterans can sign up to be part of the vet-to-vet program and animal lovers for our We Honor Veterans and Pet Peace of Mind Programs.

Mt. Hood Hospice Training Topics

This comprehensive training includes five 4-hour days about the holistic care of hospice, terminal illnesses, grief, bereavement and much more. You will hear from current volunteers and staff members and will be able to ask questions.

Time Commitment to be a Mt. Hood Hospice Volunteer

Once training is complete, references called and you have an interview with the volunteer coordinator you will be added to the list of patient volunteers. A Mt. Hood Hospice patient will request a volunteer and depending on the location and availability you may be called about getting paired with a patient. You may or may not accept the position depending on your schedule. A Mt. Hood Hospice volunteer may only offer 4 hours of service per week but generally visits average an hour unless they are for respite and usually one time per week. There are times that a volunteer will not have a patient and other times their service with a patient may only last a short while.

Location TBA

Training will be in the city of Sandy, however the exact location will depend on number of attendees.
